If your tooth is too severely damaged to be restored, our dentist may recommend a tooth extraction to remove it from your mouth before any further damage occurs so that we can begin the process of restoring your smile. In some cases, Dr. Mark Wright may need to extract multiple teeth from your mouth in order to begin the restoration process. Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth. While our goal is to help you protect your teeth and avoid the need for an extraction, in some cases, removing the tooth is the best option for restoring your oral health and function. Some of the conditions that may cause our dentist to recommend tooth extraction include:
- Severe infection that has destroyed much of the tooth and supporting bone structure.
- Significant decay that has damaged a tooth beyond repair.
- Overcrowding of the teeth caused when there are too many teeth to properly fit in the mouth.
In some cases, you may require many or all of the teeth in your upper or lower dental arch to be removed. This may be the case if many of your teeth have sustained damage from infection, decay or injury. Dr. Wright will remove your teeth as quickly and gently as possible and will provide you with post-extraction care instructions so that you can take care of your mouth and heal properly following the procedure.
After you have healed, we will work with you to find a replacement for your missing teeth and fully restore your smile, oral health and oral function. Depending on your needs, this restoration could be a crown, bridge, or complete or partial denture.
